As promised... Frankie & The Heartstrings music video!

Being involved in this brilliant music video was probably the best day of my life so far. The video was directed by the wonderful Carol Lynn. These guys (as I've said before) are a wonderful band from Sunderland. I recommend you get your hands on their music at popsexltd... Go on. You know you want to.

Era Hysteria

"I must become a lion-hearted girl."

I have a confession to make... I'm in love with Florence Welch. She's beautiful, eccentric and tall (tall being a big bonus and I am awkwardly tall). I also adore her taste in fashion. Here are some photos I LOVE. If only I was a man or gay...

"I will paint you in silver, I will wrap you in cold."

So today for the first time in a long time I listened to AFI's Sing the Sorrow. When I was a teenager I listened to this album obsessively and today I can still see why I loved it so much. I personally feel it is one of AFI's most beautifully written albums (actually, problaby the most beautifully written album I own). Currently I'm listening to the song Silver and Cold . My favourite lyrics in this song have to be:

"Light, like the flutter of wings,
feel your hollow voice rushing
into me as you're longing to sing.
So I,I will paint you in silver.
I will wrap you in cold.
I will lift up your voice as I sink."

I saw AFI perform at Newcastle when they were doing their December Underground tour. Unfortunately I did not get to see them this time round for Crash Love.

FYI: Sorry my posts have been so poor lately, I've been very busy with uni work. I promise to make time!

Because you're mine, I walk the line.

Johnny Cash. When I was home over Easter my Dad played Johnny Cash in the car everywhere we went. He is wonderfully dark, humorous and tragic. Songs I recommend you listen to: The Long Black Veil, Cat's in the Cradle, Ring of Fire and Folsom Prison Blues.

My all time favourite painter? Marc Chagall.

Fantasy Fashion

"Nothing is permanent, not even death."

Last night I finally got to watch The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus starring Heath Ledger, Lily Cole, Christopher Plummer, Tom Waits and Andrew Garfield. It was a lot of something... A lot of oddness really. Our main characters- Tony, Doctor Parnassus and the Devil- surprised me in the end, in particular Tony (I guessed there was something more to him considering how his face changed whenever he went into the Imaginarium).

I won't give too much away:
The story is about Doctor Parnassus (played by Christopher Plummer) and his deal with the Devil. The Devil (played by Tom Waits) made him immortal but at a price- any child Parnassus has will belong to the Devil when they turn sixteen. At the beginning of the film Parnassus' daughter, Valentina (played by Lily Cole), is three days away from turning sixteen but of course the Devil is too tempted to make a deal so he promises Parnassus that he can keep his daughter is he collects five souls before he. That brings me to the beautiful travelling show!
The travelling show to the naked eye looks like a typical Victorian travelling show- something you might see with a circus or at a carnival but if you were to pay the doctor a small price you would be able to slip through the onstage mirror and into a world filled with your own imagination. In this world the customer is faced with a choice...

After making this deal with the Devil about collecting the souls Anton (a young man who helps out with the travelling show, played by Andrew Garfield) and Valentina find a man hanging from a bridge. This man, Tony (played by Heath Ledger), is alive but without memory so he stays on the travelling show. Doctor Parnassus believes he was sent to help him. But Anton begins to question whether or not Tony can be trusted considering whenever he goes into the imaginarium his face changes. In the imaginarium Tony is played by Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell.

So as you can tell this is quite a story line (and what I've said isn't even half of it). Over-all the film was complicated (and I LOVE complicated), a little intense and a visual masterpiece. I thoroughly recommend it!

Give me envy. Give me malice. Give me your attention.

So I have to say Easter was completely awesome thanks to Emily and a wonderful band called Frankie and The Heartstrings. Me and Emily got to be extras in the video for their new single Tender. Here are some photos. I will update this blog when I make the time!
Updated:

Okay so about a week back I got a text from Emily claiming (hysterically) that F&THS were filming a video for their new single Tender in the North-East and that they were looking for extras. So we applied. After a few days we hadn't heard anything back and we were losing faith UNTIL I decided on the night before the shoot to check my emails one last time and voilĂ ! we got the invite! I called Emily instantly (a very drunk Emily, may I add) and told her that we must go. She booked her train tickets (with difficulty) and we both stressed about what the fuck would we wear?
The venue of the filming was at a place in Byker called The Stars and Shadow Cinema (a very quaint independent cinema)and after getting lost several times and almost murdering a taxi driver we arrived and in good time. We picked up six Easter eggs before hand; one for me and Emily to share; and one each for the band members. For the shoot the extras (around 10-15 of us) had to do a lot of dancing while the band 'played' on a small stage. It was excellent.
I will post the video when it's complete!
Over-all we had an excellent day. The band were very sweet to us and the shoot was an experience I'll never forget.

"...be always searching for new sensations..."

Sorry I haven't posted in a while, I've been busy. So I thought I would just do a brief post. It's been excellent being home and despite the fact I haven't been blogging I have been scribbling away in my journal. I really can't stress the necessity of a journal! Get one! Even if you don't have anything to say just sketch or paste images into it. I think if I didn't keep some kind of journal words and thoughts would just spill out of me like a feverish sweat.
You can get the best journals from either Paperchase (I got my blue camera-print journal for £4.99) or TK Maxx (I know, surprising! But they do have beautiful leather journals in for a decent price). The images are some nice notebooks you can get at Paperchase.
